Ups & Downs

I read this sobering profile in the New Yorker last week on the perils of pharmaceutical dependence. It left me feeling particularly sullen but also helped me to accept a simple truth.

There will always be winners and losers in life. People that succeed where you fail. Others who fail where you succeed..

I’ve felt my fair share of anxiety and self-loathing over the years. I’ve even endured some downright depressive periods that never seemed to end.

But looking back on these events leaves me smiling.

For these sour memories have allowed me to soar like never before.

We must learn to accept downturns for what they are.

They have so much to teach us.
