The Heavens

As we made our descent into Sydney last week I pulled up the porthole blind to discover the sun’s glow rising below a floor of clouds that stretched into infinity. 

Looking out at that soft morning light humbled me. It made me think of all the hundreds millions of souls, our ancestors, who would have given anything to spend a few seconds in the heavens.

For most of us, we’ve come to take the simple pleasures for granted, too busy conquering candy crush or binging the latest Hollywood blockbuster.

History has so much to teach us. It’s time we ask ourselves what we’re taking for granted.
