I got sucked into this incredible New York Times podcast on the rise and fall of Carlos Ghosn.

It’s a remarkable rags to riches tale of an immigrant who went from the factory floor of Michelin to heading the North American division of the French tyre company eighteen years later.

Earning a reputation for putting out financial fires, Ghosn was tasked with rescuing Nissan in the late nineteen-nineties. Defying the global financial markets, Ghosn put the Japanese automaker back in the black.

He became an overnight celebrity, a rare feat for a foreign-born corporate titan in Japan, where he was lauded on prime-time talk shows and even had his own Manga comic strip.

Twenty years on however, Ghosn is now facing prison time for some fanciful accounting, allegedly pocketing more than twice his declared paycheck.

The greedy bugger let the fluff get to his head and now he’s been caught with his pants down.

When the devil shows up on your doorstep, don’t offer him a glass of water. 

Sooner or later, avarice is bound to catch up to you.
