Passionfruits

Yesterday I went to the local chemist to have some passport photos taken. Or rather re-taken.

Having had the first set of headshots denied, I returned to resolve the issue.

Kim, the short stout Filipino manager, obliged me. Quietly boasting more than fifteen years of experience, she assured me the fix was a cinch.

For the next forty-five minutes, Kim snapped multiple shots, double-checked measurements with her ruler and quietly resolved to overcome the technical obstacles.

Five sets of prints later we finally found ’the one’.

Normally I hate waiting — I just can’t help chewing over the opportunity cost of lost time.

Yet in this case Kim's passion trumped the clock. Her blind persistence humbling me.

When we surround ourselves with a community and daily schedule that leaves us feeling warm all over we effectively betray unhealthy crutches.

Only here can we see our true potential.
