Where R U?
What qualifies as a well-balanced lifestyle? For most of us that’s like measuring the length of a piece of string.
We’ve all felt the wrath of excess, the agony of a tremendous hangover after a friend’s baby shower or fallen pray to a body flu after a particularly stressful week. We’ve also basked in the sunshine of serendipity, when everything is in its right place and we can sincerely savour time with the ones we love.
While I’m all for different strokes for different folks, the underlying reality is that we’re more likely to strike a healthy balance when we’re consumed by our destination. When we believe we’re worthy of collecting the pot of gold at the end of our rainbow.
I like to think of this healthy balance much like traversing a well-worn hiking path in the Amazon rainforest. When you know where you’re going, it’s easy to relish the journey with your trusted companions. The sun shines down as you stick to the trail with confidence, leaving you exhausted but genuinely satisfied as morning dissolves to night.
When you start to lose sight of your life path, it’s all too easy to betray your inner momentum. In the blink of an eye the sun disappears behind thick clouds before torrential rain begins to fall. As fear and paranoia take hold, you lose sight of your companions and stumble off the path into the dense jungle. Suddenly every step becomes an uphill battle, your emotions getting the better of you as you hack and claw at the thick vegetation in a desperate attempt to retrace your steps.
For anyone that wants to root out the unhealthy elements in their life you have the ability to forge a direct route back to your own hiking trail. You simply need to find the time to stop flailing and start listening.
When you’ve successfully gotten your heart rate back under control, it’s time to remove your inner compass, seek out true north and get back to where you deserve to be.
