The Sunny Side Of The Street
At the end of a walk yesterday I decided to treat myself to an acai bowl, ordering with the vendor before crossing the street to wait in the sunshine. Given the choice, I always opt for the sunny side of the street. Not only does it instill a sense of wellbeing but leaves me more contented overall.
Yet as I basked in the sun’s warmth, I couldn’t help facing a glaring paradox in my thinking over the last few months. Why did I willfully devote so much time to the shadows of my mind?
For most of us, negativity is both commonplace and ever-present. We can’t help chiding ourselves for mistakes made (and those to come). Yet when we have the courage to rise above the ego and step outside its clutches, we begin to call out our self-destructive ways. In doing so we effectively shift our narrative from tragic victims to self-reliant operators.
When we have the courage to do away with excuses, we open up new pathways in our mind’s eye. This explosion of choice not only cultivates perspective but allows us to fork off onto sun-kissed pathways that promise to leave us feeling all the better for it.
