Pants On Fire
“You’ve got to have soul in the hole. If that isn’t there, I don’t see the point.” — Nick Cave
I said yes to a spontaneous horse riding trip with my sisterino over the weekend. Having not been on a horse since I was a whippersnapper, I was fatefully matched with Portia, the sassiest mare in the pen. Incidentally, my type of woman.
As soon as I found my way onto her back, Portia pushed her way to the head of the pack where she remained for the entire journey. It was clear from the outset who was in charge.
As we meandered along, a string of birds darted across the forest trail up ahead. Our teenage guide explained that they were lyrebirds, ground-dwelling creatures gifted at the art of mimicry and known to imitate the cry of any bird during the mating season.
Mull that one over for a hot second. A creature seducing its soon-to-be lover with lies and deception. Sound like anyone you know?
Everywhere we look there are imitations of the latest fad. Pimple-faced teenagers rocking Ariana Grande’s top pony and Justin Bieber tips, middle-aged women desperately channeling their inner Carrie Bradshaw and over-the-hill slobs successfully reincarnating ol’ Norm.
It’s rarer to find individuals who march to the beat of their own drum. Who aren’t concerned with how the world receives their choices. Sure it’s nice to enjoy the security of safety in numbers but it’s far from our true calling.
You have everything you need to shake off the sheeple syndrome by listening to the answers within. Dress to impress yourself and invest time in activities that bring a sense of genuine fulfillment to your day.
Have the courage to be the person only you can see.
