Today marks the official start to my PhD program at the University of Newcastle.

It all began after Julia Leigh, the talented Australian writer/director, graciously accepted my invitation to a morning coffee last winter along with a link to a scholarship application that had found its way into her inbox. 

I never saw myself going back to school. Yet the opportunity to write an original screenplay funded by the government was just too good to pass up.

I’d never won anything like this before (or since) yet I saw it as a sign from the universe. A reward for following my curiousities. 

If I’d never said yes to shooting little fashion BTS videos, I never would have met the photographer who recommended I read his friend Julia’s books who never would have attached the opportunity at the bottom of an email.

And so it goes.
